Emma Stone has heaped praised a reporter for finally calling her by the correct name.

The 35-year-old has featured in a bunch of movies over the years, including the likes of Easy A and The House Bunny, to her Oscar Award winning performances in Poor Things and La La Land.

Stone has become a household name in Hollywood, so you'd think we'd be able to get her name right by now.

However, Stone has had a stage name for the majority of her career, though it is not that different from her actual name.

Stone's real surname is actually Stone; it's just her first name that's different.

The actor's real name was discussed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter alongside fellow actor Nathan Fielder, who is her co-star on the comedy drama, The Curse.

Speaking to the magazine, Fielder said: "Before we continue, I’d like to say something. Her name’s Emily, but she goes by Emma professionally. So when there’s people that don’t know her, I end up saying Emma. But I’m going to just say Emily from here on."

Stone was then asked if anyone in Hollywood refers to her by Emily, to which she replied: "When I get to know them, people that I work with do. It’s just because my name was taken [by another actress in the Screen Actors Guild].

"Then I freaked out a couple of years ago. For some reason, I was like, 'I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily.' Nathan calls me Em, which is easier."

When asked if she would be bothered if a fan in the street called her by her birth name, she added that it would be 'so nice' to go by Emily.

"No. That would be so nice. I would like to be Emily." Stone said.

Well, Stone got her wish recently during a press conference at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival on Saturday (18 May).

A reporter referred to her by her birth name of Emily, leading to a beaming smile appearing from the Hollywood star.

The journalist made the reference while asking Stone a question about her upcoming film Kinds of Kindness.

Stone turned to the movie's director, Yorgos Lanthimos, telling him, 'That's my name!'.

As to where the 'Emma' came from, Stone drew inspiration from the iconic 90s pop group, The Spice Girls.

When she was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon back in 2018, Stone revealed: "Growing up, I was super blonde, and my real name is Emily, but I wanted to be called Emma because of Baby Spice and guess what? Now I am."
