Christina Applegate was left in tears after receiving a standing ovation at the 2024 Emmy Awards.

The awards show took place at the Peacock Theater in California last night (January 15), and it was full of talking points once more.

But perhaps the most heartwarming moment of the evening saw Applegate walk on stage to present the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy series.

The 52-year-old was joined on stage by the show's host Anthony Anderson.

As the actor took to the podium in Los Angeles, the whole audience rose to their feet, leaving Applegate visibly moved by the reception.

"Thank you so much! Oh my God! You're totally shaming me [and my] disability by standing up," the star said as she generated much laughter from the audience.

"Body not by Ozempic," Applegate added referencing the popular weight loss drug.

She continued: "Some of you may know me as Kelly Bundy from Married with Children. We don't have to applaud every time I do something," she added after receiving another round of applause.

"I'm going to cry more than I've been crying," Applegate concluded.

In 2021, Applegate revealed that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) while filming Dead to Me.

Since then, the actor has been open about how the disease has been affecting her and even admitted that she may never act again.

After making her screen debut at just three months old in a Playtex baby bottle commercial, Applegate has been in countless iconic films and TV shows.

However, she thinks her future may be a lot less certain now.

“I can’t even imagine going to set right now,” the Married… with Children star shared with Vanity Fair last year.

“This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse."

MS is an autoimmune disease that causes damage to nerve sheaths in the brain and the spinal cord. People with MS experience symptoms including numbness, speech impairment, problems with muscular coordination, blurred vision and extreme fatigue.

“There are just certain things that people take for granted in their lives that I took for granted. Going down the stairs, carrying things - you can’t do that anymore. It f**king sucks," Applegate added.

“I can still drive my car short distances. I can bring up food to my kid. Up, never down."

“I actually don’t want to be around a lot of people because I'm immunocompromised," she said.

“I also don’t want a lot of stimulation of the nervous system because it can be a little bit too much for me. I like to keep it as quiet and as mellow as possible.”
