Christina Applegate has given a heart-wrenching career update following her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.

Applegate publicly disclosed that she had MS back in 2021 while filming the third and final season of the hit Netflix show Dead To Me.

Sharing the news in a statement on Twitter, she wrote: “A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a**hole blocks it.”

Since her diagnosis, Applegate has been open about the struggles she’s faced living with the condition.

Last month, Applegate admitted that she never 'has a good day'.

"You just have little s****y days. People are like, “Well, why don’t you take more showers?” Well, because getting in the shower is frightening. You can fall, you can slip, your legs can buckle.

Especially because I have a glass shower. It’s frightening to me to get in there," she shared.

Applegate said she struggles with the simplest tasks, including walking down the stairs and carrying things.

"It f**king sucks. I can still drive my car short distances. I can bring up food to my kid. Up, never down," she said.

The 51-year-old made a rare public appearance at Variety’s 2023 TV FYC Fest in Los Angeles this week where she was honoured with the TV Fest Legacy Award.

During her speech, Applegate revealed that she’s unsure if she’s going to be able to act in the future.

During an emotional speech, Applegate tearfully said: “Thank you so much for being supportive and understanding as I journey through this new part of my life, not knowing if I’m going to continue on to act anymore.

“I don’t know if I can. I’d love to, I do miss it. I miss it so much.

“It’s a daily struggle to walk and to move and stuff, but I’m so happy I ended it with a show like Dead to Me.”

She went on to heap praise on her Dead To Me co-stars including Linda Cardellini and James Marsden, before telling the audience: “I’ve had a lot of fun, so thank you.”

This isn’t the first time Applegate has shared an update about her future, just last month during an interview with Variety she admitted: “I can’t even imagine going to set right now.

“This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse."
