Orlando Bloom admits career regret after missing out on role in huge Netflix show with 83% Rotten Tomatoes rating

Bloom reflected on his career and a role he wished he took up after an offer

Orlando Bloom has been in a whole host of popular films and TV shows over the years, but he has admitted to regretting missing out on a role for a TV show he loves.

Actors often step into roles that become memorable and iconic all over the world and Bloom is no different.

Whether you know him as Will Turner from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Legolas from The Lord of the Rings films ("They are taking the hobbits to Isengard!" lives in my head rent-free) or even more recently as Rycroft Philostrate in Carnival Row, the actor has made quite a name for himself.

But he does have some small regrets about a role that he ended up not taking, on a show that has gone on to become quite the popular global phenomenon.

In a recent interview with UNILAD, Bloom reflected on his career and spoke about why he didn’t end up taking the role in question, while also talking about his latest project.

But before discussing his past, Bloom discussed his latest film, Deep Cover, an Amazon Prime comedy starring himself alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Nick Mohammed.

The fun, laugh-out-loud comedy sees the trios' characters, go ‘undercover’, working for the police and putting their improvisation work as struggling actors to good use.

Yes...okay it does sound ridiculous but I swear it works wonders. You can check it out, as Deep Cover is available exclusively on Prime Video now.

Bloom admitted that he hasn’t done much comedy work so was ‘nervous’ stepping into his role as Marlon, the loveable oaf who isn’t always in on the joke.

The actor praised the writing team for helping him bring the character to life and said much of the humor and zany momentscomes from the stellar writing and gave him the confidence to step into the role in the first place.

He added that being able to understand exactly how your character fits is integral and he explained that, for the role he regrets passing on, he simply couldn't quite wrap his head around it.

During the interview, Bloom said he was meant to star in a Black Mirror episode that fans loved upon release, USS Callister, of season 4.

While debates over which season is the best or whether the show has lost its touch are rampant, it still maintains an impressive 83 per cent Rotten Tomatoes score and still remains a massive hit on Netflix, with season 7 dropping in April earlier this year.

He said: “I was asked to do something in there, and I didn't, because I so didn't know what to do. I sort of regret it now that I've seen it.

“I've seen it because I love Black Mirror but I didn’t know how to...That’s the thing of [me] not doing comedy and not understanding this, playing the truth and sincerity [of the character].

“I’d love to be able to do something, now I kind of get that but i didn’t understand how to.”

Dallas Howard, who starred in her own Black Mirror episode (fan favorite Nosedive) joked it was an easy fix and that they just need to make a quick phone call.

So, who knows, with the next season sure to come out in the next few years, Orlando Bloom could be another familiar face that is added to the impressive list of cast members.
