Netflix fans have been recommending this classic film from 20 years ago that they say is just as brilliant and relevant today.

Netflix is full of a whole host of films from the most recent to those from the distant past, but not all of them manage this incredible cinematic feat; to be timeless.

Well, fans of this one comic-adapted film in 2005 has people excited it has landed on the platform.

The film has long been praised for its themes and critical look at government corruption and totalitarian rule, reiterating a core message spoken by its lead character ‘People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people’.

And if you thought this was just hype, the film was both loved by critics and regular cinema goers. It even boasts a rather impressive 90 percent popcorn meter on Rotten Tomatoes.

What film could this possibly be? None other than the James McTeigue directed V for Vendetta, based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore.

The film focuses on a dystopian London which has become a police state occupied by a fascist government and a vigilante, known as V, attempts to start a revolution encouraging the people of the nation to rise up and fight back.

The ideas and themes appeared to resonate with many viewers back when it released and to this day people still praise the film on social media.

As it landed on Netflix, people have been encouraging others to give it a view.

One Reddit user commented: “V for Vendetta has always been one of my favorite movies, but I swear it was ahead of its time by a few years. It's crazy how that movie becomes more and more relevant as the years pass.”

Another fan the film commented on Twitter : “Now feels like a good time to remind the kids about a little film called: V for Vendetta.”

A third person commented: “It's one of my all time favorite movies. Nothing better then sitting down every November and watching it again.”

Another said: “We are living in political times where V for Vendetta’s dialogue makes absolute sense.”

Despite the high praise for the film, even now there still is a raging debate about which is better, the graphic novel comic or the film, but either way, you’ll need to at least try one of them, and why not get cozy and watch a hero/villain behind a Guy Fawkes mask get to work.
