Netflix viewers binge watch '1000/10' mini-series for 23 million hours as they label it 'flabbergasting'

Netflix subscribers are obsessed with a 'flabbergasting' mini-series which has racked up an incredible 23 million hours watched.

The world's largest streaming service has plenty to offer, but sometimes non English-language series can be overlooked.

Unless you're talking about the likes of Squid Game, that is, but the hit South Korean drama is the exception and not the rule.

Enter The Gardener, a Spanish-language mini-series fans have compared to Dexter and You.

The six-parter - which does come dubbed in English - is the second most-watched non English-language series, with Netflix subscribers having watched 23 million hours of the show since its April 11 release.

The crime drama stars Cecilia Suárez and Elite's Álvaro Rico as mom La China Jurado and 'emotionally impaired' son Elmer.

The pair are hiding a huge secret; they're using their gardening company as a front for lucrative - but super illegal - contract-killing activities.

Business is booming and the killer duo are feeling unstoppable.

That's until one day, Elmer starts falling for a woman who he's supposed to kill.

Kindergarten teacher Violeta (Catalina Sopelana) captures his attention - and eventually his heart - throwing a serious spanner in Elmer and his mom's side hustle.

Fans have since taken to social media to share their love for the TV show.

While Rotten Tomatoes critics might only have awarded the show a score of 50 percent, fans were more generous, giving it 73 percent.

One fan wrote: "The ending was unexpected and seems like Netflix could renew it for a new season.

"I was flabbergasted with the screenplay, creative aspect, and the storyline. Amazing."

A second agreed: "Loved it - very unexpected ending," as a third weighed in: "If you enjoyed You, then you will enjoy The Gardener," describing it as an 'entertaining watch.'

Over on Twitter, one viewer gushed: "The Gardener on Netflix is 1000/10," as a second agreed: "I just wish there were more episodes."

Others were quick to compare it to the likes of Dexter, as one fan wrote: "Just binge watched The Gardener on Netflix... Dexter 2.0" as a second agreed: "Damn if you like #Dexter you’ll probably enjoy watching #TheGardener on Netflix."

While The Gardener's season finale left the door open for a second series, Netflix is yet to confirm whether or not another instalment is on the way.
