Netflix users are flooding to social media in terror over a new supernatural horror inspired by a real life story.

If you haven't been scared enough already by the realization that today is September 1 and summer is basically completely over, then how about a new supernatural horror that's landed on Netflix?

Prepare to sleep with your lights on tonight:

    Cast, crew and synopsis

The thriller was written by David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill) and Elijah Bynum (Magazine Dreams) and directed by Lee Daniels (Star).

It stars the likes of Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Glenn Close (Cruella), Rob Morgan (Don't Look Up), Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things) and Miss Lawrence (The Real Housewives of Atlanta).

It's inspired by the Ammons haunting case - an incident of alleged paranormal activity which occurred in Gary, Indiana, in 2011. Reported in national papers several years later, the case centred around the Ammons family reporting black flies swarming their property, hearing footsteps in the basement and 'a shadowy figure,' members of the family reporting they'd been attacked and possessed and a religious leader later being hired to perform an exorcism on the house.

After the family moved to Indianapolis in 2012, it's reported the alleged supernatural incidents ceased.

The film - titled The Deliverance - was only released last month and began streaming on Netflix just two days ago on August 30, however, it's not taken long for people to weigh in already.

    Reviews

At the time of writing, The Deliverance has score a pretty measly Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 33 percent and a popcornmeter score of 52 percent.

However, thriller lovers are rallying behind it in support on social media, with one viewer taking to LADbible Group Facebook page Netflix Bangers to share their admiration for the film.

They wrote: "This movie had me at the edge of my seat at every moment … definitely a must watch."

And it's not taken long for others to give their opinions too.

One Facebook user wrote: "I couldn't sleep after watching this.. What made it even frightening, was it is based on a true story.. I had to watch Mickey's play house before I went to sleep."

"This movie was awesome," another commented.

A third said: "It was so good so powerful had me under the covers at times."

And a fourth added: "Just Done Watch This Movie. 100% Loved It … A Must Watch."

You can catch The Deliverance on Netflix now.
