With a new month comes a whole host of new arrivals on Netflix, but if you're overwhelmed by choice then look no further than one title branded a 'masterpiece' by fans.

Starring the likes of Billy Bob Thornton, Jay Hernandez and Lucas Black, as well as familiar faces like Connie Britton and Amber Heard, the flick was first released in 2004 but has remained a firm favorite with viewers over the last two decades.

The movie is directed by Peter Berg, who's since worked on titles like Painkiller and Ballers, and focuses on a small town in Texas which comes together every Friday for one thing: football.

I know, I know, sports might not be your thing, but viewers have assured that this particular flick goes way beyond the scope of a basic sports movie.

The Permian Panthers are the focus of the movie, and when their superstar tailback suffers an injury it's on Coach Gary Gaines to help the team rise up and make their huge comeback before the season comes to an end.

Titled Friday Night Lights, the movie is based on the book of the same name by H.G. Bissinger, and it's available to stream now on Netflix as the platform welcomed a series of new titles for July.

Fans of the movie will no doubt welcome its arrival, with one viewer having admitted last year they could 'watch this movie multiple times'.

For many viewers, it's the realism of Friday Night Lights that helps it stand out above the rest.

"Friday Night Lights is one of those movies that really gets what football—and small-town America—is all about," one fan wrote in a review on Rotten Tomatoes. "It’s not just a game; it’s a way of life, and this movie shows that with so much honesty and heart. The players feel like real kids, the coaches aren’t just heroes or villains, and the pressure everyone’s under feels real."

Another viewer, who dubbed the movie a 'masterpiece', wrote: "Berg's way of shooting the surrounding cast, getting those genuine improvised emotions seriously heightens this beautiful and devestating film of warriors and attrition. Hands down one of the most accurate american sports films to be made...for every salvation, there is inevitably heartbreak and haunting pain that other films never captured."

If you're still not convinced, why not give it a go and find out for yourself? Alternatively, the streamer has also just added Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, which is about the furthest thing from a football flick, so at least you've got options.
