Hit Netflix series that saw Jenna Ortega’s character ‘killed off’ in first trailer is renewed for second season

A hit Netflix series that 'killed off' Jenna Ortega’s character in the first trailer has since been renewed for another season.

When someone blows up to the extent that Ortega has - it can be an issue.

Keeping any huge star on a smaller TV show can be problematic, and in this case, Ortega clearly just became too big and had to move on.

Whether that be for her new role in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (don’t worry we won’t say it again), or the breakout success of Wednesday, with season two currently in production, the 21-year-old actor has already made a huge name for herself in Hollywood.

This was confirmed to be the reason she left Netflix's Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, with executive producer Scott Kreamer saying: "We had originally hoped Jenna would be able to return to the role since we do see Brooklynn on video and in flashback during the season, but her busy schedule becoming a global mega-star made it impossible."

She originally starred in the series for five seasons, playing the role of Brooklynn.

When a spin-off was ordered though - Ortega hadn't stayed on board, with fans shocked they 'killed' her character off in the first trailer.

Check out the trailer here:

But all was not as it seemed.

While Brooklynn was presumed dead after, y'know, being eaten by a dinosaur - the character was revealed at the end of season one to have actually survived.

So, is Jenna Ortega back?

Well, no.

While her character came back at the end of season sporting a new haircut (and a missing hand from the dino attack), her role is now being voiced by Kiersten Kelly.

As well as Ortega, Titans star Ryan Potter - who voiced Kenji - was also replaced with Darren Barnet for the sequel series.

Despite lacking both Ortega and Potter though, the show was clearly a success, with Netflix ordering a second season.

On June 6, the streaming site posted on X: “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory has been renewed! Season 2 premieres this Fall.”

Outside of the numerous fans calling for other shows to be renewed that you’ll find in the replies of any Netflix post - the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

One posted: “Thank you, Netflix, that's one of your best show and I really look forward to know what happens next!”

Another said: “Guys. You have to watch it. It’s so good. Watch the Camp Cretaceous series that takes place prior to this. They’re all so good.”

While a third commented: "Nice! Can't wait to see what happens next."

It seems fans are still pretty happy with the show sans Ortega, and she’s going on to become a global megastar, so it appears to have worked out well for everyone.
