Netflix fans are 'hooked' on a 100 percent rated show they stumbled upon by accident.

We're all guilty of simply scrolling by some TV series recommendations, even if not for any particular reason.

Then, we end up kicking ourselves when we finally give it a chance and it's addictive. Well, fans of this particular comedy have been binge-watching the first season in just one day.

The show aired on CBC before making its international debut on Netflix in 2018. All five of its seasons are available to stream, meaning there's plenty to get lost in.

Between January 2023 and June 2025, it was watched for a staggering 142.9 million hours, according to Flixpatrol data.

The show follows the everyday lives of a Korean-Canadian family who run a small convenience store in downtown Toronto.

At the heart of the story is Mr. Kim - 'Appa' - the strong-willed, opinionated father, and Mrs. Kim - 'Umma' - his nurturing but equally determined wife.

Together, they navigate life in a multicultural city while running their business and raising their two children: Janet, a fiercely independent photography student, and Jung, their estranged son trying to reconnect with the family after a troubled past.

Taking to the R/Netflix community on Reddit, one curious person requested a series people 'stumbled upon with zero expectations but ended up loving.'

"There are times you just press play on something random and then boom, you’re hooked," they said. "Wondering what Netflix series or movie took you by surprise in a good way?"

Among the dozens of responses, one kept cropping up; Kim's Convenience.

It's safe to say the show has been smashing peoples' expectations.

"Such a great show!" one Redditor agreed, as a second said: "Fabulous!"

The show's first series was awarded a flawless rating by Rotten Tomatoes, who said while it may look like an 'old school sitcom,' its 'depiction of a Korean Canadian shop owner and his lovable family is positively refreshing'.

Viewers were in agreement, as one person admitted: "Watched the first season in a day and it really made me happy. A screwball comedy, old school vibe and I am loving it."

A second agreed: "Love it. Just stumbled by it on Netflix," adding: "So well done, so well written, beautiful characters.

"One of the best comedies I have ever seen."

A third social media user added: "This is my favorite show. I have my whole family watching... I had a house guest over and now she is hooked. You guys knocked this one out of the park. So funny and so entertaining."

All five episodes of Kim's Convenience are streaming now on Netflix in the US and UK.
