Netflix viewers praise 'must-watch' new movie that left them 'crying like a baby'

Netflix subscribers have nothing but good things to say about Tyler Perry's latest film, which left one viewer 'crying like a baby'.

Perry seems to be on a roll when it comes to his latest releases on the streaming platform.

His comedy TV series, She The People, has had viewers in hysterics, as some called it 'funny as f**k'. But why stop at making people cry with laughter when you can make them cry for real?

Well, a film directed by The Six Triple Eight star has been pulling on people's heartstrings, and it's become so popular, in fact, that it's currently number one on Netflix's Global Top 10 Movies.

So, it kind of makes sense why fans that have taken to social media to heap praise on it.

Straw released on Netflix earlier this month, and tells the story of single mother Janiyah Wiltkinson (Taraji P. Henson) as she struggles to look after her daughter, who is often sick.

However, after her paycheck is refused, she decides to hold up a bank, leading to Det. Kay Raymond (Teyana Taylor) to attempt to de-escalate the situation.

While Straw may have released some ten days ago now, many got only round to the flick over the weekend.

One viewer wrote: "Just finished watching Straw, on Netflix, oh my goodness I can’t stop crying, I love this movie, kept making me cry since the beginning.

"Such a mind blower too. Highly recommend!"

Meanwhile, a second penned on Facebook: "I cried like a baby watching this movie! My now favorite movie right now!! IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT, MUST MUST MUSTTTT WATCH! Oh my goodness, so good!!"

While a third remarked: "One of the best movies I have ever seen. It was too emotional."

Another thing that shocked viewers was the 'twist' at the ending, which a bunch of people saying it 'genuinely' caught them off guard.

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, Straw has faired better when it came to audience scores, earning 73 per cent, however, its critical rating was a bit to be desired, only reaching 47 per cent.

However, that didn't mean some critics didn't see the merit in the film.

Dennis Harvey, from Variety, penned in his review: "Straw has a cultural pulse-taking urgency that lifts it above [Tyler Perry's] usual run of comedies and melodramatic potboilers, flawed as it is."

While Entertainment Weekly's Jordan Hoffman added: "Straw is not exactly subtle, but the emotions are so raw and the performances are so earnest that you’ve really got to have a heart of stone not to care for these people."
