M3gan writer says there's a 'way gorier' unrated version of the film that exists

M3GAN has been causing quite a stir, and there might be more to come with an even gorier version on the cards

The director of the new super-creepy film M3GAN says that fans can expect another version in future that is ‘way gorier’ than what we’ve seen at the cinemas already. Here’s the trailer to give you an idea of what they're working with:

The film has only been in cinemas since 6 January, but in those short few days fans have already been raving about it.

Created by Universal and horror experts Blumhouse, M3GAN features an incredibly realistic and unnerving AI doll that has been created as a companion for children.

Obviously, it doesn’t quite work out like that.

After the robotic genius that created the doll gifts a prototype version to her young, orphaned niece, things start to take a marked turn for the worse.

Who could have possibly foreseen that coming, right?

Anyway, the film has been written by horror specialist James Wan and his friend and frequent collaborator Akela Cooper.

The pair have worked together on other scarefests like Malignant and the forthcoming The Nun 2, and Cooper said that there could be more to come from M3GAN as well, with a higher-rated cut expected in the future.

M3GAN has some seriously creepy themes and an enviable kill count already, yet it was only given a PG-13 rating by the censors, meaning that a wider – and younger - audience will get to see it.

That has worked wonders for the movie’s marketing, spawning a viral TikTok dance and a groundswell of interest amongst teenagers.

On that rating, Cooper told the LA Times: “No shade to Universal, love them, and I understand that once the trailer went viral, teenagers got involved and you want them to be able to see it.”

However, there’s going to be something for the hardcore horror fanatics as well.

Cooper went on to say that she expects to see a much more graphic and gorier version of the film released at some point.

She continued: “There should be an unrated version at some point. ... I heard it is on the books.

There might be more M3GAN to come.

“But yes, it was way gorier. Her body count in the script was higher than in the movie.

“It wasn’t a Gabriel [character in Malignant-scale massacre, but she did kill a bunch more people.”

Cooper added that there were a ‘couple of characters whom James was like, ‘I like what you did with those people, but I want them to live.

However, she claimed: “I was merciless, but again, that is me. My humor is extremely dark.”

As we’ve mentioned – M3GAN is out now in cinemas, so you needn’t wait for the super-gory cut if you want to see what all the fuss is about.
