Ryan Reynolds fans have been going wild over one of his sleeper hits that some feel didn’t get the love it deserved when it was first released.
Ryan Reynolds has been churning films a lot longer than you might think, the dude is almost 50, mind you, and has an acting credit as early as 1991.
So, there are likely quite a lot of films of his that don’t get the love they deserve, but many of his fans have insisted this action comedy starring him and Samuel Jackson is one of the best films made in the last 10 years.
And to make things even better, the film has just dropped on Netflix this month.
Now that high praise from some fans is certainly going to ruffle some feathers, but many viewers would agree that even if it isn’t your cup of tea it is definitely a fun ride, and sometimes that is exactly what you need.
What film is this? Well it is the Hitman’s Bodyguard, and before you ask, no, it isn’t a weird sequel to the 1992 Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner flick.
Fans loved the duo's chemistry in the action comedy (Lionsgate films) The 2017-released film centers on Reynold’s character, Michael Bryce, who is essentially a ‘protection agent’ (bodyguard), and Samuel Jackson’s Darius Kincaid - a hired assassin (hitman) - in a weird buddy cop adventure to take down another big bad.
While the plot isn’t exactly jam packed, many fans have remarked it is the pair’s chemistry that makes it a great film, as the duo are basically playing exaggerated versions of themselves.
One user said: “That's why I loved it. Two of the most charismatic actors just hamming it up.”
Another said: “The chemistry was top notch. Predictable story overall but one would easily pay to go see it just for the two.”
A third added: “It was definitely one of the most enjoyable/fun films to watch. Sam l Jackson and Ryan Reynolds had some excellent chemsitry and nailed their roles.”
Critics and general viewers didn't seem to agree on the quality of the film (Lionsgate films) With another commenting: “A movie like this almost completely hinges on the chemistry between the leads, and imo that was absolutely there, in spades.”
And another fan simply put: “It's one of the best action/comedies made in the last 10 years yet the [critics] gave it 2 stars.”
Unfortunately, the film didn’t exactly kill it with critics and only scored a 44 percent on the Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer, but faired better with general viewers and has a respectable 67 percent on the popcorn meter.
So might be worth adding to your Netflix film list if you want a fun and daft action comedy to bang out.
