Marvel fans have been left stunned after realising Joe Biden is a villain in the Spider-Man comics.

Those who are familiar with Spider-Man, whether it be in the form of the comicbook character or brought to life by Toby Maguire, Andrew Garfield or Tom Holland, will no doubt also be familiar with his enemies.

Some of the most commonly known villains Spidey has come face-to-face during his time as a superhero include Doctor Octopus, Venom and the Green Goblin, but there are of course a whole range of characters that Spider-Man has to deal with throughout the comic series.

One such villain is, apparently, Joe Biden.

We all know Biden - he's the president of one of the most powerful countries in the world; the Democrat who prevented four more years of Donald Trump and a man considered by many as one of the good guys.

However, it's actually not the real-life president Spider-Man has issue with. As one Twitter user pointed out, Joe Biden in the comics actually refers to the real name of the villain Spectrum.

The Marvel fan shared their discovery online with an image of the character's Marvel Wikipedia page, which strives to prevent internet users from becoming confused with the note: "Not to be confused with former Vice-President Joe Biden."

Alongside the screenshot, the Twitter user wrote: “I’m crying why the f*** is Joe Biden a Spider-Man villain."

The revelation took the internet by storm, with the tweet racking up thousands of likes and shares.

One Twitter user described the news as the 'funniest thing [they've] seen today', while another wrote: "This is the greatest thing I have ever seen."

The page reveals the villain has made a handful of appearances, and one dedicated Twitter user even managed to track down one of the strips in which he is featured.

"Found the first comic he appeared in and I have to say this one of the funniest out of context comic book panels I’ve ever seen," they wrote alongside an image of the strip.

Though the villain is not related to the real Biden, the POTUS has actually inspired another character, Joe Biden Jr., who has appeared in multiple Spider-Man comics, beginning with Amazing Spider-Man No 683.

It goes without saying that Spidey is well equipped when it comes to taking down villains, but I think it's safe to say he'd face some backlash if he turned against the actual President.
