Known for its gruesome gore, horror movie Terrifier 2, has just grossed an impressive $5.2 million at box office.

Terrifier 2 follows on from the story of the first movie, with Art the Clown haunting a teenage girl and her brother on Halloween.

The movie, which released in the US earlier this month and the UK on Monday (24 October), has been in the news due to its shocking levels of gore.

Despite that, it is fair to say it is doing extremely well, as the movie grossed the $5.2 million mark with a budget of just $250,000.

A staggering $1.8 million was brought in over the last weekend, an 84 percent increase that allowed it to pass $5 million.

According to its distributor, Bloody Disgusting, that works out at around an impressive $2,511 per theater average

Producers never expected Terrifier 2 to do so well as it was originally an Indiegogo project.

However, the hype for the terrifying adventure ballooned that money made from the project surged to over 430 percent of the initial goal.

It is not just fans that are loving the movie, with critics also heaping loads of praise on it.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the critics consensus sits at an impressive 88 percent, with the audience score not much lower at 85 percent.

Sean Burns, a reviewer at North Shore Movies, said: "Good lord, is 'Terrifier 2' disgusting. It’s also a blast, if you’re into this kind of thing."

Matt Donato, a movie reviewer at IGN, said: "Terrifier 2 rips, tears, hacks, shreds, butchers, disembowels, decapitates, devours, pulverizes, tenderizes, slices, dices, skewers - I'm missing plenty - and knock-em-out-dead eviscerates the current competition when it comes to low-budget slasher effects.

Aaron Neuwirth for We Live Entertaiment said: "This is an overlong but effective splatter horror feature that really doesn’t run short on anything."

Terrifier 2 has made the headlines in the US for making people pass out in the cinemas while watching the film.

One fan - Andrew Liming - took to Twitter to share a picture of his friend passed out in the cinema with medics attending him.

He said: ""#Terrifier2 my friend passed out and the theater called an ambulance. Highly recommended."
