After completing an English Literature with Creative Writing degree at Surrey University, followed by a Masters in International Journalism at Salford University, he began working for the Warrington Guardian as a reporter. Throughout this though, he did freelance work about Film and TV for publications such as DiscussingFilm, looking for any excuse to get to rant about films. He has now finally got that wish.

In case you missed the news, Amazon are making a live-action God of War show.

With The Last of Us truly breaking the video game curse for TV and Film, it has opened the floodgates for iconic games to receive TV adaptations, with Sony’s Ghost of Tsushima also in the process of receiving its own show.

But when it comes to translating an iconic game to the screen, the lead is a vital part of this.

You may have not known how you felt about The Last of Us when you first heard about it, but after seeing Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie – most of us knew how great the show was set to be.

In the case of God of War though, fans believe the correct choice has been under our noses the entire time.

The character of Kratos is an iconic one and has been voiced since the soft reboot in 2018 by Christopher Judge.

Whilst the earlier games focused on Greek myths are iconic, it has been confirmed that the God of War TV show being produced by Amazon will focus on the Norse myth stories of 2018’s God of War and 2022’s God of War Ragnarok.

If you ask fans though, there is no need to change the casting for Kratos.

Back in 2022, a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), stated: “Why is everyone saying that Triple H or Braun Strowman are two of the “perfect” choices for Kratos in a live action project when @iamchrisjudge is LITERALLY THE F*****G GOD OF WAR?!”

The post garnered a huge amount of support from fans, as well as a response from Christopher Judge himself.

Judge quoted the post saying: “Co-sign”.

Whilst it is rare for video game voice actors to take on roles in the adaptations, it is not unheard of.

Both Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, the voice-actors for Ellie and Joel in The Last of Us play roles in the show, though not their original characters.

Add to this the fact that Marlene, a major character in the show and game, was played by Merle Dandridge in both version – and the possibility is there.

Whilst the overwhelming majority of fans seem to want Judge to return as the rage-filled God, not all are in agreement.

In a post on reddit discussing the right casting for Kratos, one commenter said: “I understand that many many fans of new GoW would be over the moon if they just took the voice actors and slapped them into live action series, BUT that may be a more problematic than you would think.

“Christopher Judge is 59, even though he is in great shape how long do you think he could play Kratos?

“Kratos is really physicaly demanding role … he would be almost 60 during creating just the first season of the show. Not ideal imo.”

Other common names thrown out have been Reacher’s Alan Ritchson, Dune’s Dave Bautista, and Spartacus’ Manu Bennett.
