The creator of the video game franchise Gears of War has made it clear he would like to see popular actor Dave Bautista star in the recently announced Netflix movie.

Earlier this week, Netflix announced it would be teaming up with The Coalition to adapt Gears of War into film.

Taking to Twitter, the streaming platform announced it would be making a live action film and an adult animated series in the Gears universe.

That's where all the information stops though, with Netflix not revealing any details on plot, cast, or the directors and producers working on the project.

Cliff Bleszinski, who no longer works on the Gears of War franchise, took to Twitter on 7 November to discuss his preference for who should take on the characters of the famed Xbox franchise.

Bleszinski confirmed that he would not be involved with the film or the animated series that will follow it but gave the project his blessing.

On social media, he also said he would be open to helping Netflix in a consultancy role if the streaming giant were to approach him.

Bleszinski was also keen to give his suggestions on who he thinks should play some of the main characters from the gaming franchise.

He sees Bautista as the ideal candidate to play the franchise's main protagonist, Marcus Fenix, and wants a Latino actor to portray Fenix's cohort in the games, Dominic Santiago.

Bleszinski also suggested Ryan Reynolds would be a 'perfect' choice for Baird, but said he did not want Chris Pratt anywhere near the film.

Luckily for Bleszinski, Bautista is very interested in the role of Marcus Fenix, admitting so in an interview with GameSpot earlier this year.

When asked about the role, he said: "I've been pursuing Gears of War for years now.

"I believe it's in the hands of Universal Studios. And I've been knocking on their door and badgering them and they are so sick of me, phoning in and asking them where they are with that project.

"But, yes, Marcus Fenix is absolutely a dream role for me. I want that role. So, if you can start a petition…"

He echoed those comments in a video with IGN when a reader insisted he should be in Gears of War.

"Come on dude, let's do this," the Guardians of the Galaxy actor responded.

"I've been begging for this part for years. This is my destiny to play Marcus Fenix."
