Fans are hailing Ryan Gosling’s new flick The Gray Man as the ‘best Netflix movie’ ever released – high praise indeed.

The Gray Man stars Gosling as a covert CIA agent known only as Six, who accidentally discovers dark secrets from within the agency, prompting his former colleague Lloyd Hansen (played by Chris Evans) to place a bounty on his head.

What follows is a global man-hunt from a bunch of international assassins all hoping to kill Six and get their hands on the money.

Alongside Evans and Gosling, the movie also stars Ana de Armas, Billy Bob Thornton and British star Regé-Jean Page.

It was directed by Joe and Anthony Russo – the guys behind Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War.

Speaking ahead of its release, director Joe promised an ‘electric’ and ‘intense’ movie.

He told Variety: "It's fantastic, it's electric. It's also been a long time since we've seen a movie like this.

“We have two big movie stars going against each other to the tradition of like De Niro and Pacino in Heat.

“This is an intense action film. Very, very entertaining performances from both actors, and they're absolutely pitted against each other in the movie. "

The movie, which is based on the 2009 Mark Greaney novel of the same name, is said to have had the biggest budget of any Netflix movie – reportedly $200 million (£158.2m) – and was shot in numerous locations across the globe including the Czech Republic, France, Croatia and the US.

It was released in cinemas on 15 July before landing on Netflix on 22 July, much to the delight of action-movie fans.

Posting on Twitter, one fan said: “Watched The Gray Man last night. The best movie Netflix put out so far.”

Someone else commented: "The Gray Man is one of the best movies Netflix has produced imo [in my opinion]. It’s pretty decent. And I really enjoyed the dialogue too. Plus it had Chris Evans soo.”

A fourth tweeted: “The Gray Man might be the best Netflix action movie ever.”
