Euphoria's Barbie Ferriera announces she's quitting show amid rumours of falling out with bosses

The 25-year-old has played student Kat Hernandez since the teen drama debut in 2019.

Barbie Ferreira has announced that she is saying a ‘teary-eyed goodbye’ to Euphoria following two seasons on the HBO series.

The 25-year-old has played student Kat Hernandez since the teen drama debut in 2019 and during that time become a fan favourite.

In the first instalment, viewers watched her character grow in confidence as she engaged in online sex work and fell for Ethan Daley (Austin Abrams).

However, Kat played a more supporting role in the second series, which concluded in February, and saw her romance with Daley subsequently crumble.

On Wednesday (24 August), Ferreira posted a fan art drawing of Kat by co-star Hunter Schafer, along with a message confirming her departure from the show on her Instagram Story.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” her post began.

“I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today.

“I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.”

Her announcement comes after unconfirmed reports claimed that her screen time was cut in season two after she expressed disappointment with the show's creator, Sam Levinson, over her character's arc.

The Daily Beast reported at the time that tensions got so bad that Ferreira walked off the set while they were shooting, which allegedly prompted Levinson to cut her lines.

Following the end of season two, Ferreira commented on the speculation and told Insider: “I've seen so many different things and a lot of it is untrue and some of it’s kind of like mundane little things.

The actor, 25, announced the news on her Instagram Story.

"Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they're not rooted in the truth, but it's OK because I know it's just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff.

"And I signed up for it. So, I'll take it. I'll take the good and the bad."

Euphoria was renewed for a third season back in early February, although no production or release schedule was given.

Earlier this year, the series earned a whopping 16 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, as well as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for last year's winner, Zendaya.

Show star Sydney Sweeney also earned a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series while Martha Kelly and Colman Domingo both received noms for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
