Chris Pine fans are totally shocked to learn he played a Marvel character just a year after his iconic DC role.

Die-hard enthusiasts of the 42-year-old A-lister and all things DC Comics have been left utterly baffled to find out he was actually once a key player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After making a splash starring alongside Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman back in 2017, Pine went on to star as one of the most popular Marvel superheroes out there, sending fans into a bit of a frenzy upon this realisation.

And the film in question? The critically-acclaimed action flick which hit theaters back in 2018, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

Boasting a star-studded cast filled with the likes of Shameik Moore who plays Miles Morales - an alternate-universe version of Spider-Man - the movie sees Morales meet alternate versions of himself before becoming embroiled in an epic battle to save the multiverse.

His universe's Peter Parker/Spider-Man offers to train him up only for him to be devastatingly killed off extremely early in the film but one of the leading antagonists, Kingpin, played Liev Schreiber.

Many loyal fans of the franchise had no idea that it was Pine who actually voiced the deceased version of Spider-Man given that his role wasn't publicly announced in advanced.

His involvement in the film only became known after a publicity screening shortly before the film's release.

Pine played his version of the Marvel superhero - the ultimate and most professional version of him.

Despite the fact that Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was released almost five years ago - it's clear that a whole bunch of fans were none the wiser about the unexpected cameo.

Reacting to the news that Pine had played the first version of Spider-Man, one Twitter user posted: "Chris Pine was in the first one?!"

Fans were utterly baffled when they found out.

A second echoed: "How am I just now finding out about this?"

One surprised fan hoped Pine could have had more screen-time in the Marvel role: "Wish we could’ve had more of him, he’s a good voice actor."

"Man, Chris Pine was Spider-Man for such a brief moment but the man was PERFECT," declared a final fan.

Guess we're all going to go back and have another watch to catch Pine properly this time.
