Netflix is dropping a new season of Black Mirror in June

It's been four long years since we last entered the dystopian world

Get ready for a new and probably unnerving insight on life, because Netflix has finally shared some details on the upcoming season of Black Mirror.

After four looong years since season five was released, it had started to feel like we might never set our sights on some new dystopian and futuristic stories from the world of Black Mirror.

Rumors about the cast for season six started to circulate last year, but that news was followed by months of silence. That is, until now. Check out the trailer:

Netflix has been treating fans to all sorts of exciting announcements this week, including details on the new season of Heartstopper and a juicy new trailer for Henry Cavill's last ever season as The Witcher.

But today (26 April), it's all about Black Mirror.

The teaser trailer for the new series finally dropped today and its emerged that the sixth season is set to have more episodes than season five, which saw the likes of Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace and Miley Cyrus joining the cast.

Variety reported last year that season six would welcome some more new faces, including Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul and Deadpool's Zazie Beetz.

Other names linked to season six include Paapa Essiedu, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Danny Ramirez, Clara Rugaard, Auden Thornton and Anjana Vasan.

While not much isn't yet known about the upcoming episodes, it's been teased that this season will be 'the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet'.

Netflix didn't comment on the rumors at the time, but Black Mirror has since hinted that some information would soon be coming our way as its official Twitter account piped up this week for the first time in four years.

Entirely out of nowhere, on Tuesday (25 April) the account posted: "what have we missed?"

Creator and showrunner Charlie Brooker then got involved in the conversation as he responded with a 'thinking' emoji, while Netflix jokingly answered: "scientists are still creating robots that slowly harness more and more advanced AI like they haven't watched a single episode of your show."

Though Black Mirror didn't offer anything other than those four words, that was all it took to get fans excited about the prospect of new episodes.

“Netflix I will give you a thousand dollars to confirm a new season please please please (I do not have a thousand dollars, just play along)," one fan responded to the tweet.

Another fan offered up their own pitch for the new season of the show, writing: "The next Black Mirror season 6 trailer should just be news/video clips of the past 3 years and end with 'Thanks for Watching. Season 7 coming soon'."

Black Mirror season six will be available to stream on Netflix in June.
