New mystery horror series dethrones The Crown as Netflix’s number one show

Netflix users are speaking out after The Crown was overtaken as the platform's number-one show by a new mystery thriller

Netflix users are speaking out after The Crown was overtaken as the platform's number-one show by a new mystery thriller.

Fans of The Crown have waited patiently for two years for the series' fifth season, released earlier this month on 9 November.

However, no matter how itching they were to see the brand new lineup and delve back into the twists and turns of Britain's royal family, some fans have gotten distracted by a new series on the block.

On 17 November, season one of a new mystery thriller was released on Netflix.

While season five of The Crown quickly climbed to the top 10 in 88 countries following its release on 9 November, viewed for more than 107 million hours, the new mystery thriller has swiftly knocked it off Netflix's top spot.

Season five of 'The Crown' has been knocked off Netflix's top spot.

Wondering why? Take a look at 1899's official synopsis: "On their journey across the vast and treacherous Atlantic Ocean, the passengers of the Kerberos encounter the biggest mystery of their lives. Welcome to 1899, a deeply immersive new series from the creators of Dark."

The series has also been compared to not only The Matrix but Inception too, branded 'another MASTERPIECE' from the creators of thriller series Dark, Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese.

Dark wrapped up over two years ago and lasted three seasons.

If that wasn't enough to entice you, then take a look at the trailer:

Fans of The Crown have since flooded to social media in light of the historical drama having lost its Netflix crown to 1899.

Many have even been left in a predicament over whether to pause watching season five of The Crown to start 1899 or not. "Do I keep watching the crown or start 1899????," one Twitter user said.

Another decided: "Woah just saw that 1899 is finally out on Netflix but I’m only on episode 4 of The Crown. I guess The Crown will just have to wait."

A third said: "Stuff is not okay. I have currently started : 1899, The Crown, Succession, Better Call Saul, Three Kingdoms (Chinese historical drama), Andor, plus stuff like Unsolved Mysteries. No wonder I can't finish anything lmao.

"Alas, The Crown *might* get dropped. This season is meh."

A final resolved: "Overall 1899 has received positive reviews + it dethroned The Crown from no. one spot.... That's a big deal."

1899 and The Crown are both available to watch on Netflix now. The tricky decision of which to binge-watch first is up to you.
