A woman who had sex with her husband every day for a year has revealed why she decided to start the experiment.

In 2021, Brittany Gibbons decided that she wanted to carry out the experiment where she and her husband would be getting down every single day, come rain, come shine.

Maintaining an active sex life can be one of the big challenges facing couples as their relationship matures.

In the honeymoon phase of a relationship, couples might be leaping at every opportunity to rip each other's clothes off, but for some people, things like routine and having children may temper that initial ardour.

But now Brittany has opened up about why she decided to undertake the year-long marathon with her husband, and it's not what you might think.

You might assume that a sex marathon may have been an attempt to rekindle the spark in a marriage which has gone a bit stale.

But you would be wrong.

Instead, Brittany shared that she decided to have sex with her husband every day for a year for herself.

In an article for Women's Health, she explained that she wanted to feel more confident about herself and be able to lose herself in the moment during sex rather than worrying about how she looked.

"I didn’t do it to save my marriage," she wrote. "I did it to save myself; the effect it had on my marriage was merely a perk."

She added: "It was never about anyone wanting me; it was about me wanting myself.

"And it only took an entire year of getting laid to figure that out."

Before the experiment, Brittany explained that she had been less confident and disconnected from her body.

She wrote: "I didn’t let myself be naked. I kept the lights off during sex, hid my stomach and boobs inside a camisole, and I waited for my husband to leave the bedroom before barreling from the shower to my closet to get dressed."

Explaining the impact, she said: "For the first time, I was more concerned with every part of sex that felt good than finding a flattering angle to hide my stomach or back fat.

"My body was being enjoyed by the both of us, equally."

She said that she had gotten the idea from a friend who had done something similar, and aside from some times when they had the flu or were away from each other due to travelling, they did indeed have sex every day that year.
