A woman who had sex with her husband every single day for a year has opened up about the physical and emotional impact it had on her, and revealed the biggest lessons she took from the ordeal.

Anyone in a committed relationship will know that keeping that spark alive takes a lot of work, and that over time, naturally, intimacy can dwindle.

Though the majority of couples are satisfied with having sex once a week - something a study last year discovered - Brittany Gibbons decided to push her and her husband's relationship to the test - by being intimate every single day for a whole year.

And amazingly, this benefited her mentally as she felt more confident in her own body, as well as more present during sex.

For the first six months, she explained how she 'hid' her body under clothing a camisole - which is a nighty - but halfway through her experiment, she no longer felt the need to hide her stomach from herself.

“For the first time, I was more concerned with every part of sex that felt good than finding a flattering angle to hide my stomach or back fat,” Brittany wrote for Women's Health.

“My body was being enjoyed by the both of us, equally.”

A growth in confidence and self love

By the end of the year, that confidence had only grown.

“A year in, I stopped wearing clothes entirely,” she joked, adding that her kids would probably be the first to notice.

But beyond body confidence, Brittany says the year-long commitment taught her and her husband some important truths about marriage, intimacy, and expectations.

'Fitting sex into all of that is difficult, but, for us, it's necessary'

As for the lessons, she explained: “First, we learned that it's hard, and that's normal. The majority of people around you are not having sex every single day.

"They're busy being stressed at work, coordinating their kids' soccer schedules, and paying bills. Fitting sex into all of that is difficult, but, for us, it's necessary.

“Sex is what reminds us we're intimate partners and not just roommates in charge of keeping kids alive.”

That said, she also learned why making time for sex mattered so much to her and her husband. For them, intimacy wasn’t just about physical connection - it was a reminder that they were partners, not just co-managers of a household.

In the middle of raising kids and keeping everything running, sex became the thing that reinforced that held their romantic bond together.

By the end of the year, Brittany said they had a much better sense of what worked for them, allowing them to adjust their lives around that level of connection rather than forcing an unrealistic routine.
