Tom Holland has said he doesn’t care what people think about his iconic Lip Sync Battle performance and didn’t realise it was 'so forward-thinking'.

The year was 2017, and Holland, now 27, was promoting the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming in the US.

To do so, he appeared on the TV show Lip Sync Battle alongside co-star Zendaya, now 26.

It’s safe to say that no one will forget how he broke the internet with his iconic rendition of Rihanna’s 2007 hit ‘Umbrella’.

You can watch the incredible moment below:

Discussing the viral performance, he told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m proud of it. I like that it left a lasting impact. It was an amazing time.

“My life was changing before my eyes. Spider-Man was coming out. I was on the up. I was getting offers and turning them down for the first time, which was really crazy.”

He went on to say that at the time he was meeting up with producers and directors and hanging around Los Angeles by himself.

Tom Holland's 'Umbrella' performance has gone down in internet history.

“I was finally at that stage where I could say, ‘Can I bring my friends?’ And they’d say, ‘Yeah,’” Holland continued.

When asked if the rousing Lip Sync Battle performance was him making a statement about toxic masculinity, he said 'no' before stating that he didn’t 'give a f**k'.

He continued: “I’ve grown up in the most non-toxic-masculine environment possible. I didn’t realise what I was doing was so forward-thinking.

“I was just like, ‘Yeah, f**k it, I’ll put some fishnets on and dance in the rain. That’ll be really fun. I don’t care.”

However, Holland further stated that you won't catch him recreating the iconic performance now.

“Just because I don’t want to do a f**king TV show that I don’t need to do. I’d rather go and play golf and live my little private life.”

Furthermore, the 27-year-old said that he found it 'interesting' that despite being a Hollywood movie star, 'Lip Sync Battle is what I get the most compliments for'.

Elsewhere in the interview, the actor said there is a 'part of me that wants to walk away' from the Spider-Man franchise.

He commented: "There’s a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises.

“I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”

Despite his apprehensions, Holland has said he’s 'really happy' with the direction of the rumoured Marvel Cinematic Universe tentpole.
