Salma Hayek believes Hollywood refused to cast her in comedy films for years because she was ‘too sexy’.

Ah, same, sis.

In a recent interview with GQ UK, the Mexican actor said she was ‘typecast’ for the longest time and struggled to show her versatility as a performer.

She told the outlet: “My entire life I wanted to do comedy and people wouldn’t give me comedies.

"I couldn’t land a role until I met Adam Sandler, who put me in a comedy [2010’s Grown Ups], but I was in my forties! They said, ‘You’re sexy, so you’re not allowed to have a sense of humor.

“Not only are you not allowed to be smart, but you were not allowed to be funny in the ’90s.”

Thankfully, since then, Hollywood has come to their senses as Hayek has starred in a string of comedies, including Like A Boss, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and Bliss.

And, I mean, the woman is a scene stealer in all of them.

During the 1990s, Hayek became a sex symbol thanks to the film From Dusk Till Dawn, where she played a snake-dancing vampire queen.

But after the film, Hayek landed her most acclaimed role thus far, in which she played real-life artist Frida Kahlo.

Miramax

Hayek has previously opened up about her experience working with the film’s distributor, the disgraced Harvey Weinstein and how he emotionally tormented her on set.

She recalled how the notorious film producer struggled to take her seriously as an actor.

She wrote: “He told me that the only thing I had going for me was my sex appeal and that there was none of that in this movie.”

Hayek added how Weinstein ordered her to remove Frida’s infamous unibrow; otherwise, he threatened to shut down production.

Still, even after scoring an Academy Award for Best Actress, Hayek noticed she was still being offered the same roles as before.

But the actor definitely got the last laugh.

She told GQ UK: “I was sad at the time, but now here I am doing every genre, in a time in my life where they told me I would have expired – that the last 20 years I would have been out of business.

"So I’m not sad, I’m not angry; I’m laughing.”
