Prepare to cringe as you get PTSD from when you've made the same awkward error:

We've all been there - at an event and having spotted someone we know, desperate to say hi but slightly forgetting our social cues.

You could wait until your friend finishes their conversation with the other person, but who knows how long that'll be, so you try your best to politely hover by and alert them to your presence at the most inconspicuous moment. It's awkward, but it happens, we learn from it and get over it.

However, the internet has been left divided over a video of YouTuber James Charles wandering up to Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp at the 2022 People's Choice Awards, breaking up Schnapp's conversation with Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds.

The viral video shows Charles slowly making his way over to the pair - his focus on Schnapp - it unclear whether or not the YouTuber has realised the person in conversation with the Stranger Things star is Reynolds.

Charles then lingers by the pair awkwardly - reminding me of many a family Christmas party when I needed my mum and would have to linger around her catching up with some ancient relative who had commented on how much I'd grown, because I needed to know where the loo was.

Despite Schnapp and Reynolds appearing deep in conversation, Charles interrupts to say hi to Schnapp, before turning around and appearing slightly taken aback to be faced with Reynolds.

Reynolds then takes his seat and Charles and Schnapp continue chatting.

Despite many of us having accidentally stuck our foot in it in similar fashion, some social media users have been left far from happy by Charles interrupting the pair of actors.

One Twitter user said: "The way he just stood there in the middle of their conversation wanting attention like [crying emoji]."

"He’s like that one coworker that just stands there wanting to join the conversation when it never involved them in the first place," another wrote.

A third commented: "He's so embarrassing."

Some social media users have criticised Charles for interrupting the conversation.

However, other users have been quick to jump to Charles' defence.

One said: "Y’all are so disrespectful in the replies lmao you’ve never went up to someone and started a conversation? I get y’all don’t like him but come on, they’re clearly in a place where MANY people are walking up and starting conversations? He even waited to be addressed lol."

"Look I don't like James Charles either but he walked up, stood there, and waited respectfully & didn't say anything or interrupt them until Noah acknowledged him," another echoed.

A final resolved: "Congratulations. You just discovered that James Charles did a basic human function."
