Awkward moment Sofia Vergara confronts interviewer as he appears to poke fun at her English

Spanish host Pablo Motos mocked the way the actress said 'Modern Family'

Sofia Vergara had the perfect response to a TV host who mocked her English accent.

Colombia-born Vergara has been doing the rounds of late ahead of the release of her new Netflix series Griselda, which drops on the popular streaming platform on January 25.

Ahead of its release, Vergara starred on Spanish television show El Hormiguero and chatted with host Pablo Motos.

The pair discussed Modern Family, which helped take her to a new level of stardom as the well-loved character, Gloria Pritchett.

The series first aired in 2009, and ran for 11 years.

Discussing the sitcom, Motos paused the interview to poke fun at Vergara's English accent.

"How do you say Modern Family?" he asked.

"I say it wrong? Oh, because you speak better English than me? Ah," Vergara clapped back.

Sofia Vergara didn't look terribly impressed.

Going on to note her American acting accolades, the Hot Pursuit star went on: "How many Emmy nominations do you have in the United States? How many times did they nominate you at the Golden Globes?"

I mean, she makes a fair point.

Over the course of her acting career, Vergara has been nominated for a handful of Primetime Emmy Awards and SAGs, and was voted as People's Choice Award's 'Favorite Comedy TV Star' in 2020.

She also received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2015.

The crew could be heard nervously laughing at Vergara's clap back as Motos tried to the drive the conversation onto a different topic.

People have since taken to social media to hit out at Motos for mocking the actress.

"But with what authority does Pablo Motos tell Sofía Vergara to repeat how he pronounces in English?" one viewer questioned.

The actress recently featured on Spanish TV show, El Hormiguero.

"How important is that? It seems extremely rude to me (and profoundly abnormal as well)."

Another added: "Pablo Motos earned that response. I loved Sofía Vergara putting the person who tried to ridicule her in her place."

But others felt the interaction between the pair was all in good humor and that they were simply having a joke with one another.

"The interview for me was very good," insisted one person.

"First, Sofia Vergara knows about humor and has the coastal spark and the guy has a heavy comedy program. The interview was very well prepared. She knew what she was going to face."

Representatives for Vergara have been contacted for comment.
