Lizzo opens up about losing her virginity in her 30s

Lizzo is opening up about her sex life, admitting she previously lied about losing her virginity.

The About Damn Time hit maker spoke to Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco about waiting until her 30s to have sex for the first time.

“I was a late bloomer,” she said on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast.

The hosts then attempted to guess the age when it happened and the Grammy winner shared that it occurred in 2020.

“Isn’t that crazy?” she added. “I wasn’t even thinking about it… I promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy.”

The hosts were left in shock, and Lil Dicky asked if she would have had sex had she not won a Grammy.

Lizzo has now won four of the coveted music achievement awards, with her first win happening in January 2020 when she was around 32. The chart-topping musician laughed at the question, and clarified 'it was not the night of the Grammys' but soon after.

“I feel a weight off my chest right now,” she shared. “It was so embarrassing. I was in a friend group of girls. We were all girling one night and it was like, ‘Wait, Lizzo are you a virgin?’”

She continued: “I said, ‘I love the D.’ I said that. And it held me over for a little while.”

Lizzo also revealed she had her first kiss at 21, and it was ‘terrible’.

“Y’all have no idea. It was religious for me too. Like, when we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn’t do anything before marriage. And them, I was just so scared. Like, nobody wanted to kiss me,” she shared.

“It was a New Year's Eve thing and he forced it on me. I was really mad and I was like, 'My first kiss is ruined.' I was so mad," Lizzo continued.

Waiting to have sex for the first time is a lot more common than you may think. Researchers in the field believe the stigma around waiting is declining due to changing attitudes among Gen Z and millennials.

The musician is currently dating Myke Wright and the couple publicly confirmed their relationship in 2022.

They remain mostly private, however Lizzo gave fans a brief insight into her love life during an interview on The Howard Stern Show in 2022.

“I am very much in love with Myke. 100 percent. There's nobody else I’m going to be with for the rest of my life.”

Last year, Lizzo said Wright had changed her perspective on weight loss by introducing her to the term ‘weight release’ instead.

“I want to be very intentional about the words that come out of my mouth because there's young people who are watching me and they're experiencing what I'm putting into the world,” she said on On Purpose with Jay Shetty. “They're applying it to their own experience and their own life just like I did when I was a kid.”
