Kate Hudson reveals she ‘took a full year off men' following advice from her therapist

Kate Hudson has revealed what happened when she took 'a full year' away from flirting, texting or engaging romantically with men

Kate Hudson has spoken out about why she took a year off dating men after a session with her therapist.

The actor may've starred in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but the 45-year-old has revealed she once decided to swear off men for not just a week or so, but a whole year.

In an interview with Alex Cooper on her podcast Call Her Daddy, Hudson revealed she took 'like a full year' away from dating when she was in her thirties.

She explains she was allowed to 'talk to' men but 'couldn't flirt' or 'even text guys'.

"I couldn't give them my number," she adds.

But why did she decide to make such a cut-off decision?

Well, because Hudson's therapist advised her too. of course. The actor explained her therapist offered to 'help' her but warned she had to actually 'do it' and stick to the advice.

"He's like get off the sauce," she continues. "And, well my thing, is I always get distracted. It's fun. I just love the, 'Oo this is fun I'm going to text this person.'"

The actor explains she was so ready to accept the advice because she didn't 'want to keep repeating any patterns anymore'.

And it saw a massive improvement to her life.

She says: "It was strangely empowering because it got very uncomfortable for me in [...] like the first couple months.

"[...] You know my mojo was like [mimes downward movement] I was just like [...] I felt like, 'What am I doing?' [...] It's not fun, you know?"

However, Hudson explains because she was 'going through a very specific type of therapy', the whole process was 'really about figuring out certain things that were happening with' her.

"And then I had this one sort of breakthrough that was very emotional, that I don't think I would have been able to access if I had any distraction, so it allowed me to see things much more clearly.

"And then, within six months I was like, I didn't care about my phone, I didn't care if I was going to go out and meet my girlfriends, I wasn't like that thing where I'm like, 'Oh I wonder if so-and-so will be there' or 'We should call up so-and-so and do that'. There was no desire for me to be doing anything that had anything to do with potential flirtation."

Once the actor got to that stage, her therapist told her she could go and flirt again and she jokes she 'forgot' how to do it at first, but when she returned, she 'didn't have the same attachment to' texting guys anymore.

The one year without men saw Hudson feeling really 'happy' being single and not going for certain men she would've gone for before.

It also led her to end up with her now fiancé, Danny Fujikawa - something she doesn't think would've happened if she hadn't gone through the year without flirting.

So, how about it?
