Peacemaker star John Cena has divided opinion on social media after revealing why he's not yet started a family.
While appearing at a Fan Expo, the wrestler-cum-actor opened the floor to attendees who had questions for him, and one woman in particular was keen to know if he was 'looking forward to having any kids'.
"Currently no," replied Cena, but this only seemed to pique her interest even more.
For the next minute, he proceeded to explain how his non-stop career opportunities - his most recent major role was in Heads of State opposite Idris Elba - are being prioritised as opposed to following societal conventions by settling down and welcoming a little one into the world.

"From the information that I've gathered you've kinda gotta look after [kids]," he said, matter-of-factly.

"I'll just give you a small insight to my life: I have been working straight for 43 days now and I've got another 20 to go," continued the WWE legend, possibly alluding to the upcoming film Little Brother.
"So if I were to bring a life into this world that needs environmental nurture and unconditional love, I also know that takes time, and I've been blessed with some great opportunities and life has awarded me the chance to do some amazing things. And right now I wanna seize those opportunities.

"So I don't want to make an irresponsible choice and bring a life into the world that I won't neglect - I don't think that's fair."
Cena then pointed directly at the fan who asked him the question, thanking her for 'being vulnerable enough to allow me to answer it'.
After spotting Cena's refreshing openness in a social media clip, fans were split right down the middle about whether or not he was displaying selfishness.

"That's a weird way of saying 'I'm too self-centred to have a child,'" wrote one person on X.
Somebody countered: "Having a kid you won't care for just because you want to have kids is extremely selfish, in what world is being aware of the fact you wouldn't be a good parent selfish, that's selfless."
"Self aware is the term that you’re looking for. He worded it coldly, but that’s what it boils down to," another replied in the thread.
"He seems very self aware knowing that he is not willing to sacrifice his time to raise children. It's not for everyone," pointed out a fourth user.

Meanwhile, a separate fan of Cena's felt his words came across as 'very real', as many parents 'bring children into the world without thinking about the level of sacrifice, patience and time it takes to raise them the right way'.
