Jennifer Aniston has recalled what it was like growing up in New York.

While Aniston is arguably one of the best-known actresses in the world and has a reported net worth of $320 million, the Friends alumni's childhood was very different to where she's at now.

Aniston was born in Sherman Oaks, California, but was brought up in New York. On his Armchair Expert podcast, Dax Shepard asked Aniston: "What was your childhood like being in New York City?"

"We lived in this building on 92nd in Columbus," said the Horrible Bosses star. "But the block between Columbus and Amsterdam and then Amsterdam Broadway, that was all abandoned buildings."

"I was on a bus by myself at 11," Aniston continued to share. "Can you imagine? Just by yourself, throw your key in your sneaker and 'see ya mom'."

The Hollywood favorite then recalled having to sometimes walk around the block because there was a sniper in one of the abandoned buildings — something she said was 'just normal' at the time.

"As I got older I was mugged," Aniston went on. "I was mugged a couple of times."

Despite her experiences, she insisted that she 'didn't feel fear' and that she still walked home at midnight on her own.

REASON JENNIFER ANISTON CHOSE NOT TO ADOPT

This isn't the first time the actress has opened up about her childhood. Previously she's discussed seeing the break down of her parents' marriage and how it has gone on to affect her own relationships in her adult life.

Her mom and dad, Nancy Dow and John Aniston, divorced when she was a child.

"I think that it comes from growing up in a household that was destabilized and felt unsafe, watching adults being unkind to each other, and witnessing certain things about human behaviour that made me think: I don’t want to do that," Aniston told WSJ in 2023.

"I don’t want to be like that. I don’t want to experience this feeling I’m having in my body right now. I don’t want anyone else that I ever come in contact with ever to feel that."

Aniston has been married twice. Her first was to Brad Pitt, while her second marriage was to Justin Thereoux.

The 56-year-old is currently dating Jim Curtis, a hypnotist, life coach and author. The pair have been linked since July of this year.
