Fans have donated in droves following the news that James Van Der Beek died after a long battle with cancer.

James Van Der Beek is fondly known for his starring role in 1998 hit TV show, Dawson’s Creek.

Many of the actor’s fans and supporters were stunned by the news that he had died at the age of 48 following a colorectal cancer diagnosis.

These same fans took to social media to offer kind words and post tributes to the star.

His family likely appreciates many of the kind words but has also asked for privacy at this time.

The statement announcing Van Der Beek’s death read: “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come."

Friends of Van Der Beek and their family have started a GoFundMe to help them deal with the difficulties going forward and have so far raised £2.2 million.

The bio, penned by 'Jason K', reads: "James Van Der Beek was a beloved husband, father, and friend who touched the lives of everyone around him. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, James passed away on February 11, 2026, leaving behind his devoted wife, Kimberly, and their six wonderful children.

"Throughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial strain as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care."

The page’s creator also noted that Van Der Beek’s family now face uncertainty, as the cancer treatment has required their funds.

The actor revealed in 2024 that he had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer and had been dealing with it privately since 2023.

The page continued to read: “The costs of James’s medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds.

"They are working hard to stay in their home and to ensure the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this incredibly difficult time.

"The support of friends, family, and the wider community will make a world of difference as they navigate the road ahead."
