A substantial amount of cash has been raised for James Van Der Beek's family less than 24 hours after it was revealed that the Dawson's Creek actor had passed away.
Van Der Beek's loved ones announced on Instagram on February 11 that he had died at the age of 48 following a colorectal cancer diagnosis.
Next to a photo of the Hollywood star, they wrote: "Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come."
They went on to ask for privacy during this difficult time.

Van Der Beek had been diagnosed with cancer in August 2023, but he didn't publicly share this until November 2024. He was forced to share the news earlier than he'd wanted because a tabloid had reportedly found out about his diagnosis and were threatening to run the story.

The actor had been receiving treatment for his cancer in the run-up to his death and it's said that this has now left his family facing a 'significant financial strain' because of the costs.
With this in mind, a friend has started a GoFundMe to help them and within hours of it being created it had raised over $1,000,000.
The bio, penned by 'Jason K', reads: "James Van Der Beek was a beloved husband, father, and friend who touched the lives of everyone around him. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, James passed away on February 11, 2026 leaving behind his devoted wife, Kimberly, and their six wonderful children.
"Throughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial strain as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care."

The page-creator continued to write that Van Der Beek's wife and children are 'facing an uncertain future'.
"The costs of James’s medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds," it was explained.
"They are working hard to stay in their home and to ensure the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this incredibly difficult time.
"The support of friends, family, and the wider community will make a world of difference as they navigate the road ahead."
