Bruce Campbell, the veteran horror actor best known for the Evil Dead franchise, has been diagnosed with an "incurable" form of cancer, he announced on Monday, March 2.

The actor, 67, shared the news in a post on social media, when he revealed the unexpected new health diagnosis and what it meant for his future.

Speaking in a text overlay that was shared on both X and Instagram, Campbell began: “Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that. I’m having one of those.”

He then went on to reveal that he was battling an undisclosed form of cancer, as he continued: “ It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable.’ I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too.

Campbell then explained that he would not be sharing any further details about his condition or treatment regiment, but did note that he made the announcement for professional purposes, stating that ‘a few things will have to change.’

In particular, he highlighted how his appearances, conventions and ‘work in general’ would be taking ‘a back seat to treatment.’

"My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie Ernie & Emma this fall," he said. “There are several cons this year summer that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand.”

Elaborating on why he had chosen to go public now, Campbell added that it wasn’t to ‘enlist sympathy-or advice’.

“I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will).”

While the news is no doubt shocking to both Campbell himself and his loved ones, he was quick to reassure his fans that he remained optimistic about his health going forwards as he insisted he’s a ‘tough old son-of-a-b***h with a great support" and expects 'to be around a while.’

Shortly after the announcement, fans flooded the comments with messages of support, including words of comfort and encouragement such as: "We all have so much love for you Bruce. Take all of this positive energy and kick cancers ass.”

Another user added:"You got this Bruce! Love and positive vibes to you!”

Bruce Campbell is best known for his starring role in Sam Raimi’s 1981 horror cult classic, The Evil Dead, with the star reprising his role as Ash Williams in other instalments of the beloved franchise. However, he also boasts an impressive IMDb roster of roles across a variety of genres from short independent films and prime time TV shows right through to beloved Disney films such as Cars 2.
