Britney Spears has come out with a heartbreaking message slamming her family following her conservatorship struggles.
Britney said she’s ‘lucky to be alive’ after the way her family treated her during her 13-year conservatorship that was headed by her dad, Jamie Spears, from 2008 to 2021.
“As people, all we really want is to feel connected to each other and never feel alone,” she wrote in an Instagram post Wednesday (February 4).
The conservatorship meant that she was not in control of her assets, finances, or career choices.

“For those of you in your family that have [sic] said to help you is to isolate you and make you feel unbelievably left out … they were wrong. We can forgive as people but u don’t ever forget.”

“Yearning and longing for contact is always crucial !!!” she wrote. “I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my life and now I’m scared of them.”
Before her conservatorship ended, Spears claimed her management had forced her to tour and perform a long Las Vegas residency in 2018, while being made to take lithium since she was not in control of her own healthcare choices.
The 'Toxic' singer went on to claim that ‘it’s weird how God works in mysterious ways,’ before asking: “My friends, what do you think he is saying today ???
"Because to be totally honest with you, no matter what he says, they will never take responsibility for what they did.”
At the end of her post, she revealed she had broken her toe twice, and hadn't danced ‘in a month’.

Britney regularly posts videos of herself dancing and twirling in her home, which she said was something that made her happy after her conservatorship was lifted.
However, she did say she was doing something different to find some happiness during this time, which was baking.
She wrote: “So I’ve made cheesecake today and I must say it’s pretty damn good … my neighbor joined me with milk !!!”
In response to Britney's previous claims about the conservatorship, Jamie Spears issued a statement via his attorney, Vivian Thoreen during the 2021 court battle which eventually saw him suspended as Britney's conservator.
“Mr. Spears loves his daughter Britney unconditionally,” the statement read, per Variety. “For thirteen years, he has tried to do what is in her best interests, whether as a conservator or her father.
"This started with agreeing to serve as her conservator when she voluntarily entered into the conservatorship. This included helping her revive her career and re-establish a relationship with her children.
"For anyone who has tried to help a family member dealing with mental health issues, they can appreciate the tremendous amount of daily worry and work this required. For Mr. Spears, this also meant biting his tongue and not responding to all the false, speculative, and unsubstantiated attacks on him by certain members of the public, media, or more recently, Britney’s own attorney."
