Hugh Jackman begs the Academy not to 'validate Ryan Reynolds' with Oscar nomination

He said the actor would be 'insufferable' if he was nominated in the best song category

Hugh Jackman has begged the Academy not to validate Ryan Reynolds with an Oscar nomination.

Reynolds is on the shortlist for best song for 'Good Afternoon', from his Christmas movie Spirited with Will Ferrell - but Jackman isn't best pleased about it.

See for yourself here:

In a video shared on social media, the Wolverine actor said: "I loved Spirited. It's a great movie, the entire family watched it and had a blast.

"I love Will [Ferrell], I love Octavia [Spencer]… and the song 'Good Afternoon',' I laughed the entire way through. It is absolutely brilliant."

Shifting tone, he added: "But please, from the bottom of my heart, do not validate Ryan Reynolds [with an Oscar nomination]."

He continued: "Ryan Reynolds getting a nomination in the best song category would make the next year of my life insufferable.

"I have to spend a year with him shooting Wolverine and Deadpool. Trust me, it would be impossible. It would be a problem."

Jackman said he liked everything about Spirited - apart from Reynolds.

If you're thinking this seems a little harsh on Reynolds - and a bit out of character for Jackman - then fear not, it's just a joke.

The Hollywood nice guys have a unique bromance, which manifests itself through mock mockery time and time again.

Over the years, the pair have continuously pranked and trolled each other to the amusement of their fans, with Jackman even threatening to take over a football club just so he could beat Reynolds' Wrexham.

Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the Welsh fifth tier club in 2021, and when LADbible put it to the Aussie that he could take over his own British football club, purely to defeat Wrexham, he replied: "I had never considered it - until just that last bit of that sentence."

The 54-year-old then went one step further, suggesting he could buy Norwich City in order to go head-to-head against Wrexham in a winner-takes-all match.

"Let's get that game together. That'd be fun," he said.

"And then maybe Ryan and I could just make it a little side wager. Like, everything; let's just put everything that we own and love - families, kids, everything - on the line. And let's get Norwich playing Wrexham."

However, Reynolds reckoned it would be best for Jackman - and Norwich - if this didn't happen.

Responding to Jackman's proposition, Reynolds told LADbible: "I don't think that's a wise idea.

"I mean, you know, Hugh has the business acumen of a slug. So I don't think that would go over very well."

He added: "I would back Wrexham to beat just about anybody, if you just give us a little time."
