Glee star Cory Monteith's parents have sadly passed away weeks apart, following his death over a decade ago.

Cory's parents divorced when the actor was a child and he was estranged from his father at the time of his death.

The actor, who was aged 31, died in 2013.

Police ruled that his death was an accident caused by an overdose of heroin and alcohol.

His father Joe said at the time his son's death was 'ripping my insides out and tearing me apart', revealing 11 years went by when the pair didn't see each other.

Five years on from his death in 2018, his mother Ann McGregor told People: "My world totally stopped. And I’m a different person than I was before."

She added that Cory 'wasn’t ready for the Hollywood world' and 'drugs were his way of checking out'.

Tragically, both Cory's parents have now passed away within 37 days of each other.

Ann McGregor died on June 18, aged 74, at St Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, Canada, after suffering from an illness.

Meanwhile, Joe Monteith passed away on May 12 at the age of 75. Joe was receiving care on a palliative unit after a long stay in hospital, it is reported.

An obituary for Ann reads: "Ann enjoyed her time gardening, along with her artistic pursuits on her acreage in Shirley, BC, together with Cornelius, Harley and her love birds.

"Ann was a person of strong character and she carried that throughout her life."

Meanwhile, an obituary for Joe read that he would 'forever be remembered by friends and family for his witty sense of humor and love for baseball'.

Cory was found in a hotel room in Vancouver, after struggling with substance abuse prior to his death.

He had received rehab treatment just months earlier, in March 2013.

Ten years after his sad passing, Lea Michele shared a heartfelt tribute to her late boyfriend on social media.

“Hey you. 10 years," she said at the time.

“It feels like only yesterday that you were here and yet a million years ago all at the same time,

“I hold all of our memories in my heart where they will stay safe and never forgotten.”

Underneath a black and white picture of the pair together, she added: “We miss you every day and will never forget the light you brought to us all.

“I miss you big guy.”

She then added: “I hope you found Taylor up there and are playing the drums together.”

Michele and Monteith starred across from one another in Glee as boyfriend and girlfriend Rachel Berry and Finn Hudson.

After appearing on the show alongside one another for a while, the pair started dating off-screen in 2012, a relationship that continued until Monteith’s death.

At the time in 2013, the hugely successful show was about to start shooting the fifth season.

The third episode of that fifth season, entitled ‘The Quarterback’, was made in tribute to Monteith, as well as his character, who also died on the show.
