Gamers have bid their farewells to Migos rapper Takeoff in the best way they know how: by holding their own, digital funeral on Grand Theft Auto.

In what would have been an emotional experience for GTA players, many gathered to give the singer a proper send off, according to VLADTV.

However, considering the game can be a lawless wasteland where anything can happen, gamers were given strict instructions on what to do for the funeral.

"Tonight we laid Takeoff to rest. All fans welcome [at all] three locations. All white at the church, all black at the house party. Wear your best fit at the house party," the GTA alert on social media said. .

Players were advised there would be no killing at the event and players must have a microphone to interact with others to participate.

The online invite told players to 'come show your respect' for their fallen friend, whose real name Kirshnik Khari Ball.

Takeoff's actual funeral will take place on November 11 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The venue, which is home to the NBA's Atlanta Hawks, can host more than 20,000 people.

But, with fans all over the world, not everybody could make it. Hence the GTA funeral.

Takeoff's actual funeral will be presided over by Reverend Jesse Curney III of New Mercies Christian Church.

It'll kick off at 1pm local time on Friday (November 11), according to Atlanta radio station V-103.

In a statement to TMZ, Curney said: "I was really sad to hear the news. Kirshnik has been a faithful member since he was ten years old.

"He and his family were active and avid supporters of the church and the community as a whole."

Takeoff was shot and killed at a Houston bowling alley in the early hours of November 1.

One of the victims was found dead upon arrival and Houston Police Chief Troy Finner later confirmed this was Takeoff.

According to Texan police, the shooting erupted after an argument and, despite there being around 40 at the scene at the time, most fled and did not give a statement.

Police also said investigators had no reason to believe Takeoff was involved in anything criminal at the time of the shooting.

Takeoff's record label also confirmed the rapper was killed by a bullet not intended for him in a statement that read in part: "Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world and we are devastated.

"Please respect his family and friends as we continue to process this monumental loss."
