Doja Cat recently called her last two albums ‘cash-grabs’ that people ‘fell for’ and her fans are not happy about it.

The sound of thousands of broken hearts rang out today on social media after the award-winning performer, who has been in the music game for almost a decade, criticised her last two albums.

Hot Pink, which she released in 2019, became a huge success after the song ‘Say So’ went viral on TikTok in 2020. The album also spawned the hits ‘Streets’, 'Juicy' and ‘Like That’.

In 2021, Doja cat – whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini – transported us to the world of Planet Her, which not only has the Grammy-winning pop hit ‘Kiss Me More’ featuring SZA and the song of the summer AKA 'Need to Know', it also has the best song of that year – ‘Get Into It (Yuh)'.

They say we are each our own worst critic and that appears to be the case for Doja Cat, who didn’t have the nicest things to say about the two albums.

On Tuesday, the acclaimed musician tweeted: “Planet Her and Hot Pink were cash-grabs, and y'all fell for it. Now, I can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while y'all weep for mediocre pop."

Ouch.

The tweet has been viewed over 20 million times and the people are making their feelings known.

One fan replied: “I’m sorry but when artists do this it’s so annoying like I really don’t care. Then their ‘passion project’ sounds like ass and they act like it didn’t exist a year after it underperforms like cmon lol.”

Another Twitter user came to the defence of both albums, tweeting: “Girl those my favorite albums touch grass after the next one love u.”

A third person hit back: “You’re truly a comedian.”

While another shocked social media user replied: “Planet Her was art OMG.”

Doja Cat’s damning tweet about her own music came about after she answered questions about her upcoming LP on Twitter, which will apparently shift away from the bubblegum pop sound she’s so good at and head in a hip hop direction.

Doja Cat's fans are up in arms.

On Monday (8 May), the Met Gala icon said: “My comment section on IG used to be only positivity because I was doing what everyone wanted me to do and I love that I can see through all the bullsh*t now. It's nice. Much love to everybody else that’s been down since day one I appreciate it”

A follower asked Doja Cat to ‘sprinkle in some pop songs pretty please’ to which the 27-year-old star quipped: “I won’t,” with a smiley face.

Another person chimed in and tweeted: “I just know this album is gonna flop because her fans don’t like this type of sound from her.”

Doja simply replied: “Purging.”

It seems we're all weeping for 'mediocre pop' today.
