Doja Cat loses more than 200,000 followers after calling out her fans

She told some of her biggest supporters to go out and get a job and it seems the backlash has been severe.

It's clear that actions have consequences in Doja Cat's world.

The singer has courted controversy this week after going on a rant against her fans.

Some of her diehard supporters tried to get a shoutout from the Grammy Award-winning artist, but it didn't go well for them.

The 27-year-old ripped into a group of her fans who called themselves 'kittenz'.

"My fans don’t name themselves s**t," she said in a now-deleted Threads post.

“If you call yourself a 'kitten' or f**king 'kittenz' that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house.”

However, there are loads of fan accounts on social media with the word kittenz in it.

One of the group admins asked what they're supposed to do as a name change would be pretty hard at this point (except if you're Elon Musk).

She told them to 'delete the entire account'.

The backlash has been swift and severe and it seems as though her fans went straight for her Instagram.

Sites that track celebrity Instagram accounts have noticed a huge drop of more than 200,000 followers on Doja's account in the last 48 hours.

Fans expressed disappointment that she would treat them like that when they're the ones keeping her in a job.

One wrote on Twitter: “Imagine telling your fans to get a job when they are the ones that buy your music, merch and concert tickets."

Another asked on Threads if Doja could tell her fans that she loves them but she replied saying: “I don’t though cuz I don't even know y’all.”

A different supporter chimed in and said: “And we don't know you. But we have supported you through thick and thin. Mind you, you’d be nothing without us.”

But Doja wasn't done.

She said: “Nobody forced you. IDK why you’re talking to me like you’re my mother.”

That's one way to make friends.

Loads of Doja Cat fan accounts deactivated or disabled their accounts following their comments, seemingly as a big middle finger to the artist for how she treats her fans.

However, one supporter believes they know what's causing the outburst.

They wrote on Instagram: "Doja does love us, but she is now playing the role of Scarlet, they are two different characters, in an interview she said that she apologized for what would happen later... she also said that she loved us before she got into the role of Scarlet, she doesn't hate us, but Scarlet does since she's evil, but Doja doesn't despise us."
