An owner of a Tesla vehicle has exposed the three 'hidden costs' of buying an electric vehicle in 2025.
To be honest, there's been a few negative stories surrounding the Tesla-owned car in the press, from a video showing a Cybertruck struggling to move in heavy snow, while other vehicles drove past to an owner warning others to avoid his ‘mistake’ after terrifying crash using the Cybertruck's self-driving feature.
Despite that, many are still looking at investing into the future with the vehicle, but with electric cars typically considered more expensive to buy upfront compared to petrol and diesel, there's a lot to think about.
While car manufacturers may say EV's are for the future, there's no doubt they are out of the price range for a lot of people, especially when you have to considering the 'hidden costs' associated with the vehicles, which were detailed in a viral YouTube video.

The channel 'Your Favorite Tesla' explained that the first cost comes immediately after you purchase a new Tesla, EV or something similar.
The video stated: "Three hidden costs of owning an electric car. First is the charger, this is $475 from Tesla and it’s really nice with premium materials. But to install this, it costs $950 - literally double the price of the charger."
It added: "Second thing is the insurance, we’re paying about $400 a month for this car, which is a lot more than its gas counterpart.

"Third thing is vehicle registration fees, so for gas cars it’s about $70 and hybrid is about $100. Electric cars are $200, the government says this because you are avoiding the gas charges you have to pay.
"But the whole point of buying a car like this is to avoid gas in general, so that’s kind of a slap in the face."

The average power needed to run an electric vehicle is three miles per kilowatt-hour (kWh), with 417 kWh used per month at a cost of 17.5 cents per kWh - as per the average cost of electricity in US households - translates to an average energy cost per mile at 5.8 cents.

That means it costs around $73 per month to recharge an EV.
As for the more standard form of car, the average cost of gas per gallon is $3.18 - with that much fuel taking you an average of 25 miles - with 50 gallons needed on average to drive 1,250 miles.
It costs 12.7 cents per mile, with an average monthly cost coming in at around $86 more per month for the same distance driven, at a total of $159.
