Donald Trump has declared that he will give the American public one thing they've been asking for for decades - the release of government files relating to aliens, extraterrestrial life and UFOs.
The idea of life beyond our planet is one that's intrigued people across the globe for generations, and some theories are stronger than others.
While some claim to have proof of otherworldly beings zipping down to visit our planet, others take a more reserved approach - and former president Barack Obama is among those who have recently had to clarify their stance on the subject.
The former president caused a stir when he shared his thoughts on aliens during a recent appearance on Brian Tyler Cohen's podcast, on which he declared that aliens are, in fact, 'real'.

Given that the former leader of the United States is one of the only people in the world who might actually know this for a fact, Obama’s comment naturally caused people’s ears to prick up.

Obama continued on the show: “But I haven't seen them, and they're not being kept in Area 51. There's no underground facility unless there's this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States."
The former president’s declaration caused such a stir that he was later forced to clarify his comments on Instagram, explaining simply that he meant ‘the odds are good there's life out there’ - but Trump later condemned Obama for commenting at all.
When asked to comment on Obama’s interview, Trump said: "He's not supposed to be doing that. He made a big mistake."
But despite claiming that Obama’s discussion of the topic was a ‘mistake’, Trump has now decided to take things a step further by dropping even more information about aliens due to the ‘tremendous interest’ in the matter.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
Trump himself also faced questions about whether aliens are real after Obama shared his thoughts, but the POTUS held back from the discussion as he said: "I don't know if they're real or not. I don't have an opinion on it. I never talk about it. A lot of people do. A lot of people believe it."
It's unclear exactly when the files about alien life will be released, but here's hoping they answer some of the questions that have long plagued us regular humans.
