Anyone who owns a Samsung smartphone, tablet, or wears one of the tech titan’s smartwatches is being urged to hand their old devices in.

A lot of us are guilty of always opting for a technology upgrade when the opportunity presents itself.

Whether that’s cashing in on the newest mobile phone, or swapping your old tablet out for a shiny, better version instead.

But what happens if you’ve updated your arsenal of tools so much that you have an abundance of once-loved instruments now lying around?

Or, what if you’re desperate for another Samsung Galaxy phone, but just can’t justify putting the gadget you’re using at the back of a draw to collect dust?

Well, it turns out you could be sitting on a bit of a goldmine.

Samsung has the answer Samsung recently introduced its Trade-In Scheme, which could save you up to $546.91 on a new device.

How does it work?

Much like the popular Amazon scheme, Samsung Trade-In is a sustainability program, allowing tech users to give in their old devices to be recycled and refurbished.

In return, you’ll be granted either an instant discount which can be used to bring the price of a brand new Galaxy phone down.

Or, you can give the company obsolete devices in return for Samsung Credits, which can be redeemed on a host of goodies at a later date.

According to the scheme, you can trade in both working and broken devices, with a full list of eligible products and estimated values available to peruse on the Samsung Trade-In website.

Don’t actually own any Samsung products? Don’t worry, because the brand actually accept other business’ tech too.

How Samsung Trade-In works: new device

If it’s a new phone, tablet, or a smartwatch you’re after, then cashing in your unused items seems like a no brainer.

  1. Confirm with Samsung the make, model, and condition of your device
  2. Once you’re happy with your estimate, add your new item to the basket
  3. The product’s price will automatically be adjusted, with Trade-In discount being applied instantly
  4. Post your old tech back to Samsung

Be warned that you can’t stack up your discounts. Only one device can be traded in against a purchase.

How Samsung Trade-In works: Samsung Credit

If you don’t want to buy anything right now, you’ll receive Samsung Credits instead when you hand your devices over.

To make good of this scheme, you can only trade-in Galaxy smartphones.

However, unlike with the new device program, you can hand over multiple devices to build up your Samsung Credit.

Samsung Credit cannot be used to pay for subscriptions or third-party products.

Once you receive your bank, it will be ready to spend in your Samsung Account for five years from the date of issue.
