Amazon Fire Stick users are being urged to hand in their old units this week as Black Friday gets underway.

The new Fire TV Stick 4K Max has been slashed by 42 percent in Amazon's Black Friday sale, but shoppers can take advantage of a hidden extra discount if they turn in their old devices.

All you have to do to cash in is send your used device back to your local Amazon warehouse - read on to find out how.

Amazon Fire Stick trade-in deal - get 20 percent off new device

Anyone who owns an Amazon Fire Stick (including the 4K Max device which is currently reduced online by 42 percent), can hand it back into Amazon for financial gain.

By trading in your old device, you can score a neat 20 percent off a qualifying Fire TV device and bag an Amazon gift card, according to the site.

One reviewer who recently handed back their old tech has written a positive review about their experience.

“I got this after I staring having issues with my previous Fire TV Stick 4K Max. That device would freeze and sometime just stop responding (maybe planned obsolescence ?) making it very frustrating to use,” they began.

“I can say this new stick is much more responsive than the device it was replacing. I have a WiFie router in the same room so I do not get any buffering.”

They went on to say that the new instrument ‘responds well to voice commands’ and concluded it was a ‘great purchase’.

“I was able to use my old device as a trade-in, so got both a trade-in value for the old device and got a 20% discount on this new stick,” they gushed.

Amazon is cracking down on illegal Fire Stick streaming

Earlier this month, the retailer announced it was blocking Fire Stick apps that allow users to illegally stream shows like Stranger Things and Apple TV’s Pluribus, as well as sports like Premier League football.

To stop fraudsters in their tracks, a device-level ban of piracy apps will go ahead, according to a report by Tech Radar.

“Piracy is illegal and we’ve always worked to block it from our app store… We’ll now block apps identified as providing access to pirated content, including those downloaded from outside our app store,” a representative told The Atlantic.

“This builds on our ongoing efforts to support creators and protect customers, as piracy can also expose users to malware, viruses and fraud.”
