iPhone users have been rushing to find out a setting for themselves after social media has gone into a frenzy over an unusual quirk.

Technology continues to baffle our brains every single day, and just when you think you know the ins and outs of your trusty device, there's always something that'll have you reaching for a quick step-by-step guide.

Now, social media has gone into a meltdown over a pretty random discovery that you've probably never thought of or stumbled across before.

The quirk involves the iPhone alarm app, as users report picking a time appears a bit of an endless task.

That's because instead of going around in a circular motion, with all the times in order on the 24-hour clock, the numbers are actually in one giant long list, spinning endlessly like a slot machine, only you can actually get to the bottom of it.

However, while it certainly strikes as odd considering most tech is now considered smart to the point of being almost sentient with AI, the setting arguably makes sense, as users can keep scrolling through numbers 1-12 rather than going backwards and forwards to 'find' the time to set.

Still, sharing the revelation on Reddit, dozens said they were shocked by the supposed oversight.

Users pointed out that the numbers end on 39 while the first number stops at 1, with more agreeing the list comes to an end at the random time of 16:39 on the 24-hour clock.

"Damn, I was about to say that you are trolling us because I've just now been flicking the hours spinning wheel for quite a while, and just as I was about to quit, I got to the end of it," one said. "Took a good 50 flicks at least, if not more. It's really quite a long list. My mind is officially blown."

Meanwhile on Twitter, another joked: "Some guy that shipped this 15 years ago and thought nobody would ever notice is sighing the most exaggerated sigh right now."

Others have since queried why Apple designed the alarm setting in such a way, as one added: "Everyone here is debating about why they didn't make it infinite, but what I don't understand is why not just make one single list of 1-12 then?"

"I feel like it would be easier and more maintainable to make it loop," chimed another.

However, another expert seemed to explain why it is an 'excellent engineering decision' based on the probability that 'the circular feature was non-existent' at the time.

He proposed: "The UX team required circular, management didn't want to spend time on it [and] a clever mind offered this workaround that took years for someone to discover. And the internet thinks they are smarter."

Another then weighed in the comments with a mind-blowing hack to the alarm setting feature, writing: "Bonus fact: And if you don’t want to scroll, you can just tap the numbers in the middle and it turns into an input field with a keyboard."

"17 years on iOS. Never knew this was possible," another gobsmacked user replied.
