Many on social media are sharing their fears after seeing satellite images from the 'world's worst prison', where many from the US have been deported.

It should be worth noting that none of these theories are verified, but that hasn't stopped some folks online from speculating as to what is going on within the prison.

Over 250 alleged criminals have been deported to El Salvador’s mega prison that is notorious for housing Venezuelan gang members, as well as mass murderers.

The Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) is considered the largest prison in the Americas that can house up to 40,000 inmates.

Many US citizens have been deported to the prison since Donald Trump returned to office for a second term in January.

Just hours after returning to the Oval Office, Trump signed an executive order that claimed America was under an 'invasion' of immigrants linked to organized crime, giving his administration justification for enacting this law.

Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a father from Maryland, is the most talked about individual to be sent to CECOT after being deported to the prison by mistake last month.

While Garcia did enter the country illegally sometime around 2011, a judge had previously decided in 2019 that he should not be deported because he was being threatened by a gang back in his homeland.

Satellite images of CECOT have since gone viral on Twitter, with people on the internet sharing their fears regarding the 'world's worst prison'.

Some have even speculated there may be 'blood' on the grounds of the prison, but that is of course something that hasn't been verified.

Shayan Sardarizadeh, who is a journalist at BBC Verify, said of the images on Twitter: "First of all, using Google Earth's historical imagery feature shows the image that's gone viral is from March 2024, the latest available on Google, and before Trump became president or US deportations to the facility began.

"It's clear from Google's historical imagery that the specific area of the prison we're looking at has seen construction and development since the prison officially opened in January 2023.

"We can clearly see the addition of two small buildings in the top right corner of that section.

"Crucially, we simply can't tell with any degree of certainty what the dark patch or the pile are. It's entirely possible that the patch is mud or dust rather than blood, and the pile could be construction material. It could also be a food preparation area."

However, the journalist did note this doesn't mean 'bad things may not be happening to inmates at CECOT'.

"There's quite a lot of reporting about rough conditions inmates face at the facility without proper access to due process," Sardarizadeh added.
