The wife of the man who was deported to the 'world's worst prison' due to an 'administrative error' has spoken out in a heartbreaking statement aired on live TV.

Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, from Maryland, was sent to the Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) in El Salvador last month by mistake.

So far, over 250 alleged criminals have been deported to the mega jail in El Salvador, as Trump's plan to enact mass deportations using a law last invoked during World War II is seemingly in full swing following the Supreme Court's approval of its use.

While Garcia did enter the country illegally sometime around 2011, a judge had previously decided in 2019 that he should not be deported because he was being threatened by a gang in his native country.

A Supreme Court ruled that Trump's administration must 'facilitate' Garcia's return after his accidental deportation was revealed, but that wasn't the end of things.

Meetings have since take place between Trump and El Salvador president Nayib Bukele, with the leaders making it clear it would be up to Bukele's country to return Garcia.

But during the meeting in the Oval Office, CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins asked Bukele if he planned to allow Garcia to return to the US.

"I hope you’re not suggesting that I smuggle a terrorist into the United States. How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States? Of course I’m not going to do it. The question is preposterous," the El Salvador leader said.

"We just turned the murder capital of the world to the safest country the western hemisphere. And you want us to go back into the releasing criminals, so we can go back to the murder capital of the world, and that's not going to happen."

With the situation in a bit of turmoil, Jennifer Stefania Vasquez Sura, Garcia's wife, has been speaking to the press.

She emotionally said: "I will not stop fighting until I see my husband alive. Kilmar, if you can hear me, stay strong. God hasn't forgotten about you. Our children are asking when you will come home ... they miss their dad so much."

On Tuesday (April 15), the judge commanding the case suggested she was evaluating whether contempt proceedings against the Trump administration would be appropriate.

After ordering Trump to 'facilitate' Garcia's return to the US, District Judge Paula Xinis claims she's heard nothing from the government.

The judge said: "I’ve gotten nothing. I’ve gotten no real response, and no real legal justification for not answering."
