A woman ended up finding quite a surprise when she discovered a note from her recently deceased father.

In a rather ominous message, the note hinted that there was some sort of secret or hidden knowledge contained within.

A caption on the video says: "My father passed away unexpectedly and as we were cleaning out his house, I found this ominous note shoved in the very back of his dresser."

Any of us would see our imagination going into overdrive at the potential content of such a note.

It could be a deathbed confession, or even the first clue leading to some great fortune secreted away somewhere.

The note said: "Do not read unless you want the answer," after which the caption read: "My dad was a simple, straightforward man. Hardworking and honest so this is completely out of character for him. Nerves, bc wtf?"

After nervously opening the paper, the woman's arms dropped in frustration and she showed the paper to the camera.

So what was it? A treasure map? A code for a safe?

No, in the words of the final caption, it was 'the f*cking Cracker Barrel code', talking about the brainteasing puzzle.

The challenge is simple enough, at least seemingly so, but can actually prove fiendishly difficult.

To attempt it, take a triangular board with 15 holes cut into it then place 14 pins into a hole, leaving one hole empty at the top.

The game is to end up with as few of the pins remaining as possible.

You achieve this by jumping a pin over another one and then removing the pin you jumped over, like in checkers.

Of course, the more pins that you remove the fewer opportunities you'll have to jump over another pin, so you have to think strategically.

If you can get down to four pins then, unfortunately, this is not a good score.

Three pins remaining is average, two is good, and one is completely solving the puzzle.

And this is what the woman found when she opened her father's note after his death.

Sure enough, it included the solution to the problem.

People piled into the comments to share their thoughts.

One wrote: "The dad joke from beyond the grave. What a legend."

Another posted: "you dropping your arms after reading it was so good. I'm so sorry for your loss, friend. my dad is also passed on. please frame that."

A third told recalled their own story, commenting: "My dad had a fake lotto ticket mixed in with real ones and I was like “$70,000!!!!!” Then I read the fine print and went outside and flipped off the sky."
