A woman has lamented the 'fumble of the century' after describing the specific reason she rejected New York City's mayor elect Zohran Mamdani on a dating app.
Zohran Mamdani has now become the youngest person in decades to be elected as mayor of New York City, as well as the first Muslim and the first South Asian to hold the office.
The 34-year-old ran a campaign which centred the cost of living in NYC, with his central promise being to make the city more affordable for working people.
Since his meteoric rise made him the most talked about political figure of the moment, every aspect of Mamdani's life has been analysed, including his love life.

Mamdani met his wife Rama Duwaji, an artist and illustrator, on Hinge, and the pair married in a ceremony at city hall.
But while he was still on dating app,s it turned out that one woman rejected Mamdani on there for a specific reason, though it seems she is now tearing her hair out as a result.

Online dating is no easy business, with people having all manner of criteria that they apply to their preferences.
A common one for women who are looking to meet men is height, and men who want to meet women know this and may embellish things a little as a result.
I know, people lying on dating apps, whatever next!
The woman took to social media with a post which was captioned the 'fumble of the century', explaining why she had swiped left.
She wrote: “He was listed as either 5'11 or 5'10
“And younger me knew that meant he was most likely 5'9."
So, in the cut-throat world of online dating, that meant an instant rejection swipe.
But since then, the woman said she thinks that actually, Mamdani was probably being completely honest about his height.

"Present me appreciates that he was more honest than most guys on there," she wrote.
Mamdani and Rama Duwaji married in 2025, and Duwaji will become the youngest first lady of New York City on January 1.
During his victory speech, Mamdani paid tribute to his wife, saying: “To my incredible wife, Rama, hayati.
“There is no one I would rather have by my side in this moment, and in every moment.”
'Hayati' is an Arabic term of endearment, meaning 'my life'; artist and ceramicist Duwaji has Syrian heritage.
Duwaji has had work published in The Washington Post, The New Yorker, the Tate Modern art gallery in London, and the BBC.
